Dilawri Group of Companies is currently looking to fill a position for a Regional Controller – BC Region.

The Regional Controller – BC Region is responsible for overseeing the financial operations of multiple dealerships across British Columbia. This role provides strategic financial leadership, ensures compliance with accounting standards and manufacturer requirements, and partners closely with Dealer Principals, General Managers, and regional leadership to drive financial performance, operational discipline, and long-term profitability. This position reports to the Regional Director of Finance.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Financial Leadership & Oversight

  • Provide leadership and oversight of accounting and finance functions across multiple dealerships.
  • Establish, implement, and maintain consistent accounting policies, procedures, systems, and internal controls across the region.
  • Ensure the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of all financial records and reporting.
  • Act as a key management member for accounting department as well as key financial advisor to store management and regional leadership team.

Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Review and approve monthly, quarterly, and year-to-date financial statements for each dealership in accordance with GAAP, manufacturer requirements, and internal timelines.
  • Conduct analytical reviews of financial results, identifying variances from budget, unusual trends, and performance gaps; provide clear explanations and recommendations.
  • Prepare consolidated regional financial reports and dashboards for executive review.
  • Oversee the preparation of annual financial statements and support year-end audits and external reviews.

Dealership & Manufacturer Accounting

  • Ensure compliance with manufacturer financial reporting requirements, including warranty claims, incentives, advertising programs, interest protection, and rebates.
  • Oversee inventory accounting, floor plan reconciliations, and wholesale liabilities (including lease and rental vehicles).
  • Review and approve inventory adjustments, depreciation, amortization, write-offs, prepaid expenses, and reserves according to company policies.
  • Ensure accurate reconciliation of general ledger accounts, including banks, manufacturers, reserve accounts, and inventory financing.

Compliance, Risk & Tax

  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, the Income Tax Act, and all applicable federal and provincial regulations.
  • Stay current on tax and regulatory changes and advise leadership on required operational or structural adjustments.
  • Oversee insurance, fixed assets, and the establishment of reserves for contingent liabilities.
  • Support internal controls, risk management, and audit readiness across the dealership group.

Leadership, Coaching & Collaboration

  • Lead, coach, and develop accounting teams; foster consistency and best practices across locations.
  • Support recruitment, training, performance management, and succession planning within the accounting function.
  • Work collaboratively with department managers to review financial performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Participate in management meetings, providing financial insight, analysis, and reporting to support decision-making.

Operational Support

  • Review daily and monthly management reports and notify leadership of developing trends or concerns.
  • Approve credit policies and oversee accounts receivable and collection practices.
  • Negotiate and oversee key supplier and service contracts, as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the financial and operational objectives of the group.
  • Coordinate, involve and lead in projects assigned.
 

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, with automotive dealership experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience overseeing multiple locations or regional operations is a strong asset.
  • University degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA designation preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong overall systems and financial software literacy.
  • Proven leadership and people-management experience, with the ability to influence and support teams across multiple locations.
  • Strong business acumen with a solid understanding of dealership operations, including inventory, floor plans, and expense control.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Collaborative, hands-on leadership style with a customer-focused mindset.
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada.
